So we've been trying something new for a couple weeks now, laying Owen down in the bottom bunk at bedtime every night. Lauren now prefers the top, and we'd prefer to get the crib out for more floor space. We want him to get used to the big bed before we make the switch. It usually only lasts about 20 minutes before we have to go in and pull him off the top bunk and unload the mountain of toys they've managed to hoard up there.
But tonight I thought it was going to be different. Lauren fell asleep very quickly, leaving him no one to play with. Adam checked on him once, and he was laying with his face buried in a pillow, kicking his feet. Then we heard little footsteps on the hardwood floor in the hallway and had to send him back in. And just now, almost two hours after bedtime began, I just found him sitting in front of the toy box playing. When I crouched next to him to see what he was up to, he refused to make eye contact with me. As I picked him up to put him in the crib he grabbed the closest toy and clutched it to his chest, as if to say "I'm not going down alone!"
