Arranged marriage material

Lauren's best buddy Kove turns three today, and we helped him celebrate on Saturday. We met his parents in Lamaze class over three years ago (obviously) and hit it off. They have a little girl about 5 months older than Owen, too, so all the kids get along great. Here's a few pictures from the party. Lauren was more interested talking on the toy cell phone than eating!

Patience is a virtue (not had by 3 year olds)

We had a little birthday celebration at play group today for Lauren and two of her friends that also have May birthdays. One of the gifts Lauren received was the cutest little clay flower pot, complete with soil and marigold seeds. When we got home Lauren and I were standing at the kitchen sink, planting the seeds. She asked when she could see the flowers, and I was explaining that we had to wait and water them and they would grow. She wasn't satisfied with that, and kept asking when they flowers would grow. I heard a rumble in her tummy and asked her if her tummy was telling her she was hungry. "No, Mama, my tummy just said GROW SOME FLOWERS!!"

Confidential to the birthday girl

Happy third birthday to my sweet girlie! I can't believe how fast the past three years have flown by. You've been growing up so quick, right before my eyes. It's so much fun to have conversations with you now, just to hear the silly things you say. Your thought process absolutely amazes me at times. I hope this year is good to you. I can't believe you're starting pre-school this fall. You are a great big sister to Owen, and watching the two of you play together warms my heart. I love you so much, Sis, and I can't wait to enjoy all our years together! Love, Mama

Happy Mother's Day!

Mom, thanks for giving me a wonderful example to follow. I love you!

How bizarre, how bizarre

Lauren likes to hang her panties on the knobs of her dresser, then call us in to admire her "rose bush"! Silly little girl!

Lauren-isms

Me: "Lauren, sweetie, are you okay? Why are you coughing?"
Lauren: "I'm okay, I only just have a frog in my throat."

First words out of her mouth after her nap today: "I want a lollipop." Now, she's only ever had a handful of lollipops, almost all from her Great Papa. So why this idea was in her head, who knows. I asked her what a lollipop was, just to see if it might give me some insight as to why she was thinking about them. She answered, "A lollipop is a circle, mama!" Like, duh, you didn't know that?!

So close to turning three, it hurts

Me: "Lauren, don't do that, please."

Lauren: "You don't tell me not to do that. I will tell me not to do that. Lauren, DON'T DO THAT!"

Return to sender

I've been teasing Lauren lately when she gets the hiccups. I'll tell her she shouldn't buy them anymore and that she should take them back to the store. I tickle her and tell her to return them and get her money back. I was just changing Owen's diaper and he tooted just as I was pulling his pants back up. From across the room I heard Lauren say, "Mama, tell Owen to take those back to the store!"

High on life

Adam had a rare Friday off last week, so the kids and I took him to one of our new favorite places - the bounce houses. I'm pretty sure he got more exercise than the kids did! Some of the slides are more than two stories tall, so it's a pretty good workout climbing them. Here's a shot of Lauren and her daddy, hair and limbs flying, zooming down a slide!
