Drive time
The kids and I were out enjoying the backyard this morning. Here's a picture of them - you'd never know that it is almost May by the way they are dressed! Lauren absolutely loves that hat, Lord help us when she outgrows it! And gloves are a must, even indoors, most days. Maybe she wants to be a hand model when she grows up!
Embarrassing!
I just put the kids down for a nap and Owen has been cutting more teeth so he was pretty fussy. I began to sing to them. I have a whole r'epertoire of lullaby songs that I've been perfecting over the past (almost) three years, so I went through that. Owen calmed down and I snuck out of the room. As I walked past the office I noticed that the sliding door to the backyard was open - and the baby monitor was on pretty loud. I'd bet good money that the neighbors are calling realtors as I type this!!

Wild animals on the loose!
We took advantage of the break in the rain on Wednesday to hit the zoo with some of our friends. It was Owen's first trip, and he argued back and forth with me that the monkeys were really dogs - of course, that is his favorite word! The new penguin exhibit just opened last week, and it was a little disappointing. A tent with a small cooler with maybe 5 penguins. Hopefully they'll be building a permanent home for them soon!
Correction: Owen has been to the San Diego Zoo, but he was only two months old at the time, so he definitely enjoyed this trip more!

Not a laughing matter
This morning was the first day that Lauren really had an opinion about what I wanted her to wear. She opened the closet to pick a new outfit. She knows Owen's not supposed to be in the closet because he likes to chew on their shoes. She was trying to block him from going in the door and said, "Get out of here, Brother, this is serious!" I don't know if she meant she was serious, or if it was serious business picking out an outfit. Either way, she was right!

Miss Manners
Lauren was just watching Sesame Street and Big Bird was talking about how he wanted a birdseed milkshake. She said, "Mama, I need a milkshake, too." I asked her what a milkshake was and she put her hand to her mouth with her thumb out like a straw, tilted her head back, and replied, "It's a drink like this - sluuuuurrrrrppppp."
