Miss you already, Great Papa

Just got word my grandpa passed away a little over an hour ago.  We knew it was coming, especially this weekend.  But still, to get that phone call makes your heart stop a little.  He turned 80 last month.

It's Daddy's birthday today!

Last night the kids and I made Adam's birthday cake.  They wanted it to be a surprise for him, so they kept telling him to close his eyes.  This morning Lauren helped me decorate it - I did the frosting and she did the sprinkles.  Happy Birthday, honey!

Mother's Day Tea excitement

We had our Mother's Day Tea at preschool today, so as not to compete with the elementary schools last Friday.  Just as the kids were starting to serve us our strawberry shortcake, we noticed a funny smell, like an electrical burn.  Long story short, we all ended up safely out on the back lawn, sipping sparkling cider, and watching five engines full of firemen search the building  - for what ended up being a short in a fluorescent light bulb in one of our classrooms.  The firemen were so nice, they let the kids climb around the ladder truck and explore the inside.  With all the commotion I didn't even get a picture of myself and Lauren.  Bummer!

My girlie, enjoying her strawberry shortcake.

My monkey man on the monkey bars.

Lauren was trying to get a ladybug to crawl on a twig and
was surprised to realized there was another one on her dress

Time for swim lessons

Spent my Mother's Day afternoon over at Uncle Marty and Aunt Judy's, enjoying some fabulous drinks and grub, and time with the fam.  The kids enjoyed their first swim of the season.  Thanks to Uncle John for joining them!  Owen insisted he could swim and proceeded to walk off the steps a couple times.  Don't worry, I was standing RIGHT next to him!

"Are you ready to catch, Uncle John?!"

I think we're going to have a hard time talking this one
out of a floatie suit.  The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

Happy Mother's Day

The scene: Adam is in the kitchen making lemon meringue pies from scratch.  It's been years since he's made them - 10.5 years, to be exact.  The other time was the first Thanksgiving we were dating.  He walked in with two of them that day and I think my whole family proposed to him!

Anyway, he's in the midst of destroying our kitchen and every bowl and spatula in the house is in the overflowing sink, dirty.  Things aren't going as fast as he'd planned and he says, "What's up with these fricking pies?!"

To which Lauren asks, "Daddy, what's a fricking pie?"

It's called a bra

I was out clothes shopping the other day with Owen while Lauren was at school.  As I took off my shirt and jeans in the dressing room, Owen asked me, "Are you going to take your boob thing off?"

It's May! And still raining, yippee!

Nothing like killing time waiting for summer by playing in the dress up box.  But Mommy's definitely enjoying the rain.  It's going to be one long hot summer!
